N Delhi: The Supreme Court Friday gave the Narendra Modi government a clean chit on the procurement of 36 Rafale fighter jets from France. The court dismissed all the petitions seeking a direction to the CBI to register an FIR for alleged irregularities in the deal.
The Chief justice of India who read out the judgement for the three-judge bench, said no reasons were found to interfere in the procurement process for the fighter jets.
The apex court said it is not the job of the court to deal with the comparative details of the pricing.
Minister Rajnath Singh said, “The matter was crystal clear from the beginning and we have been saying that the allegations levelled by the Congress were baseless and to gain political mileage.”
Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said their demand was for Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) and it still stands, main issue is pricing which SC said it did not want to comment
BJP president Amit Shah said the court didn’t find anything wrong with the process nor did it find any commercial favouritism in the deal.
Attorney General K K Venugopal welcomed the decision as “excellent” and said it has given a clean chit to the Narendra Modi government. (Agencies)
