A pall of gloom descended upon Udhampur today as news broke of the death of Probationary Sub-Inspector (PSI) Deepak Sharma. PSI Sharma, a resident of Sangoor village near the Udhampur railway station, was martyred during a daring encounter with gangsters in Kathua yesterday late last night. According to reports, PSI Sharma, along with a team from the Ramgarh Police Station in Samba, was acting on reliable information about a group of gangsters operating in the Kathua district. During the operation, a fierce encounter ensued at the Government Medical College (GMC) Kathua.
