The Dal Lake a major tourist attraction has been besieged by pollution, encroachment and weed growth, is Over the year, Lake has shrunk from 25 sq km to 12 sq km. Drawing flak from the people as well as environmental groups Government decided to relocate its inhabitants in an effort clean Dal lake.
However, its inhabitants say the government’s effort to clean it by using machine has “failed”. They say since they are living for generations their manual weeding process is more efficient and is the only way to “safe” Dal.
