Government has decided to terminate contract for construction of auto mechanically operated gated barrage project on River Tawi. It has now been decided to re-tender the left over works.
The project has twin objectives of providing irrigation facilities and creation of artificial lake PHE minister had last November directed M/s GVR Infra Projects Limited to complete the work within a period of four months. But the company failed to do so citing financial constraints.
On May 28, 2018 the Minister again directed the executing agency to restart the work within a period of seven days or face legal action The Irrigation and Flood Control Department was directed to seize the machinery in case the executing agency fails
The company, however, didn’t take the warning seriously. It’s after this government decided to terminate contract with M/s GVR Infra Projects Limited.
The project costing Rs 70 cr was for constructing thirty-one gates, However, using lake for tourism will take time as project for diversion of nullahs carrying sewage into River Tawi has not started
