In the past five years, around 2000 lives have been lost on three important roads in Jammu and Kashmir. From 2019 to 2023, a total of 1986 people lost their lives in road accidents on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, the Chenab Valley, and the Pir Panjal mountain range. According to official figures, in the Chenab Valley, there were fewer accidents in 2019, resulting in the loss of 113 lives. In 2020, 64 people lost their lives in road accidents in this area. In 2021, 91 deaths occurred, in 2022 there were 81, and in 2023, 114 lives were lost in road accidents.
