Like rest of the country, J&K too celebrated 69th Republic Day. Republic day in India is celebrated every year with great pride on 26th of January to honour the Constitution of India.
It was on this day that the Constitutions came into force on the same day in the year 1950. It had replaced the Government of India Act, 1935 into the governing document of India.
On this day the new Indian Constitution was sketched and approved by the Indian Constituent Assembly. It decided to celebrate it on 26th of January every year as India became a republic country.
The people across the state , defying terror unleashed by Pak firing along the borders in Jammu region and terrorism instigated in Kashmir, came out in large number to participate in the national festival.
The main function was held at Jammu, where Governor took the salute. In many areas in Kashmir region the Indian might was displayed with young and security personnel marching and saluting the national flag.

All Republic Day programmes in Kashmir, including the main event in Srinagar, passed off peacefully amid tight security in view of intelligence reports suggesting that militants might target the functions.
The main official function was held at Srinagar’s Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium, where Revenue Minister Abdul Rehman Veeri presided over the event.
In Mendhar despite Pakistan firing even on this important day, the people participated in the event. The mosaic of cultural diversity was displayed in colours in cultural items presented by students across the state.
