In last three years railways have suffered losses of Rs 5 cr due to  frequent suspension of traffic on Baramulla- Banihal railway line.

Train service on 137-kilometer  Banihal -Baramulla rail line is frequently suspended after killing of  terrorists Burhan Wani, in September 2016

Railways officials said they are forced to suspend traffic as protesters usually attack rail installations in South Kashmir –

Except for a  day in a  week, 15 pairs of train ferry around 30, 000 commuters, mostly students and employees between Banihal and Baramulla.

Railways in Kashmir generate annual  revenue of Rs 10 crore but operational cost is about  Rs 70 crore.

The frequent suspension results in mounting losses. This year till April, railways operations were suspended for 20-day

Last year the train service was  suspended for 44 days. As railways are forced to suspend operations, it’s affecting daily commuters  too .

Railways authorities are contemplating  strengthening  security to lesses days of suspension of  services
