Villages along the LoC in Poonch district are the worst victims of the Pakistan firing, which almost has become a routine affair. Thousands of villagers in Balakote, Karmada, Sawjian, Digwar and Shahpur have to move out to safer place when Pakistan mortar shells start pounding their homes.

The government is constructing 40 community bunkers in these areas with toilet, kitchen and other facilities. The locals allege the work is going at snail pace while their lives are constantly at risk.

One of the problems with community bunkers is that locals can’t take their livestock  which incidentially is the sole source of income and sustenance. They are now demanding individualised bunkers, which they say is the only safety option.

Such bunkers they believe could allow them to attend their livestock and also provide a sense of security, which incidentally is the top priority.
