District Administration, Rajouri provided assistance and compensation to 10 families in wake of loss of livestock to hailstorm and cloudburst near Thanamandi last evening. A public interaction was also held at Thanamandi today.
An assistance of Rs 3.50 Lakh was provided with Rs 35,000 each to 10 families affected. Meanwhile another amount of Rs 4 Lakh was sanctioned for compensation of livestock killed. Each family was also provided a tent and 5 blankets. Meanwhile, teams have been deputed for assessment of losses to private property in various sectors including Agriculture, Horticulture and Fisheries as well as public infrastructure by PWD, RDD and Municipal committee.
Preliminary reports confirmed loss to more than 2000 Kanals of standing crop and dozen orchards. Several orchards were also damaged in the hailstorm while roads and water supply lines as well as power lines were snapped. Restoration work has been fast-tracked by departments.
MLA Rajouri Advocate Qamar Choudhary interacted with the families at Thanamandi and assured all possible help. He appreciated the District Administration for a prompt relief and assistance to families as well as commendable job done by officers for rescue and rehabilitation last evening which saved many lives.
DDC Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary reviewed the relief assessment being done by departments and asked the public for their participation to ensure transparency. He informed that apart from assistance and compensation provided to nomadic families for loss of livestock the district administration will provide compensation to farmers and owners of private properties as per assessment report. He appreciated the active role played by local people in rescue and relief operation.
ACR Qayoom Mir, SDM Afzal Mirza, SDPO Iftkhar Choudhary, Tehsildar Thanamandi, BDO and other officers were present.
