In Kashmir, bonesetters are believed to have spiritual healing powers that transcend modern medicine. The bonesetters can assess the injury using a bone-related fine art learned from their ancestors. First, they place their thumb on the broken bones and press, evaluating the fracture’s intensity or damage solely through touch. Known as watangor in a local language, or the bonesetters, this group of indigenous people in the Kashmir region claim to cure different orthopaedic injuries based on spiritual belief.
