45-yr Ghulam Nabi Teli and his younger brother 40-yr Muhammad Hussain Teli , are both blind since birth but are masters at stitching quilts, mattresses, cushions, and pillows.
Unlike other visually challenged persons, the brothers use no stick and wear no dark glasses. They got training at the National Institute for the Visually Handicapped from Dehradun, where they learned Braille and how to make chairs, candles, and chalks.
The brothers live separately, but earn together by making quilts, cushions, and mattresses for customers. They receive sizeable orders from a local quilt-dealer. They’re quite popular in town, but are dismissive of the government attitude towards blind and specially abled people
