Kargil police have solved a 26-year-old quadruple murder case. The case began on October 7, 1998, when Bashir Ahmad from Tangole reported his brother, Mohd Ali, and three others—Haji Anayat Ali from Karghi, Shero Ali from Kathua, and Nazir Ahmad have went missing after they had traveled to Wardwan to purchase livestock. Initially, the suspects were apprehended in Khati Talab, Jammu, on April 25, 1999, but they were released on bail due to lack of evidence. As the case stalled, it was closed as untraced in 2007. Years later, in September 2011, skeletal remains were discovered near Kanital Glacier, and DNA testing confirmed they belonged to Nazir Ahmad and Shero Ali. This discovery reignited the case, and in 2012, a court ordered its reopening. However, after extensive efforts involving credible sources and mobile tracking, Kargil police finally arrested the suspects in Hira Nagar, Kathua. During interrogation, the suspects confessed and guided the police team—led by SHO Inspector Manzoor Hussain—through the rugged terrain to the crime scene.
