Security forces urge Centre to firm up a policy against handing over bodies of terrorists killed in encounters in J&K to their families. This proposal has been mooted  in an effort to prevent people from attending terrorists’  funerals.

Security forces believe  this motivates many local youths in joining terrorism. According to a report by  the Indian Express ,  J&K Police is also of the view that handing over of terrorists ’ bodies shores up

This it believes leads to an atmosphere that is conducive for more youths picking up the gun. Report says Centre is yet to take a decision on the issue . The final decision may be left with the state police, which will decide on a case-to-case basis

Authorities may decide on burying terrorists killed in encounters at the place nearest to the encounter site. “One of the final stages of youths joining terrorism  is when a terrorist “gets killed and is turned into a martyr by stakeholders”

“He becomes a hero for other disillusioned youth and thereby completing the vicious cycle”.
