Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik said government will re-examine the issue of accountability of J&K Bank to legislature. Governor said this after a meeting with delegation of Bank employees who have expressed concern in this regard.
There have been protests in some quarters against recent decision of the SAC to convert the bank into a public sector undertaking (PSU).
The Governor said far as the accountability to the legislature is concerned, all Government Owned/Controlled Companies, including J&K Bank which is registered as a Government Company, are accountable to the legislature in some respect. He said this is what has been stated in the SAC decision. This does not add any new element.
Governor said safeguarding the autonomy and operational independence of the bank is key objective of the government at all times.
A press statement issued after the meeting said the employees should not be concerned about their employment, future prospects or salary as no changes are being contemplated on this front.
