Jammu: Governor’s administration is contemplating to accord divisional status to Ladakh. Formal orders in this regard are likely to be issued shortly. Once divisional status is accorded  there will be separate directorates and heads of around 40 departments for Ladakh region.

Reports suggest a consensus has almost emerged in this regard. Governor Satya Pal Malik has held detailed deliberations with his advisors and Chief Secretary in this regard.

Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Councils of Leh and Kargil are seeking divisional status for the region.  BJP MP from Ladakh region Thupstan Chhewang has recently  resigned alleging that  State and Central Governments  are not serious in attending issues of the region.

A delegation from Leh led by CEC LAHDC Leh  Jamyang Tsering Namgial has called on Governor , advisors and chief secretary BVR Subrahmanyam

Last month, a high-level delegation from Kargil led by Chief Executive Councillor Feroz Khan also called on Governor in  this regard.
