The ‘Battle of Zojila’, also called Operation Bison, was fought from 23 May 1948 to 01 Nov 1948 at altitudes exceeding 11,500 feet. The operation was planned and executed by Maj Gen (Later General)  KS Thimayya, Padma Bhushan, Distinguished Service Order and saw the game changing employment of tanks in high altitude Platinum Jubilee of the Battle of  Zojila, was commemorated today in a  ceremony chaired by Major General Sachin Malik, YSM, GOC, at the Zojila War  Memorial, Gumri. The event included the unveiling of the bust of General KS Thimayya, the architect of the victory in Operation Bison.
