Jammu: The state police  has said the FIR filed  against army for   tying a man to a jeep in Kashmir  hasn’t been quashed.

The statement comes a day after Major Leetul  Gogoi, the army officer who tied a man to the bonnet of a jeep+ as a ‘shield’ against stone-pelting mob , was awarded the Army Chief Commendation Card for sustained efforts in counter-insurgency operation.

“Investigation on the FIR  will carry on.  It  has not been quashed. FIR means the beginning of the investigation,”IGP Munner Khan told the reporters .

Some people, especially on the social media, were  critical of the army action, but Punjab chief minister Amrinder Singh, himself an ex-army officer,  in a recent article had called for awarding the officer.

Importantly the FIR  registered  on April 13 has not specifically named the  officer. The army has constituted a  Court of Inquiry and it’s still going on.
