Daily wagers and need based workers form the backbone of departments like electricity and water supply. PDD Daily wagers risk their lives to restore electricity. Many have died of electric shock and in many case either their arms or legs had to be amputated.
Shyam Lal working as need-based worker got electric shock from high tension wire about 6-yr back. His both arm were amputated. He spent Rs 7 lakh on medical treatment for which his wife sold her jewellery and borrowed money from relative. He has not received any financial assistance from the government till now. His wife is now engaged a need based worker but she doesn’t get regular salarly.
As they are not regular government employee, the government doesn’t own them in their times of distress. Farid too got shock from high tension wire in Feburary this year. His one arm has stopped moving due to shock. They family has spent Rs 15 lakh on medical treatment but the only financial assistance from government was Rs 2 lakh, while his monthly medical bill itself is Rs 15,000
