IG CRPF Ravideep Sahi said the search operations are aimed at bringing in a sense of security among the locals and check the incidents of the bank looting.
“The search operation , which you are taking about, is to bring about a sense of security and also check the incidents of the looting of banks by the militants,”said the IG at press conference in Srinagar .
A joint search operation of the army, CRPF and the state police involving about 4,000 personnel was carried out in the Shopian district on Thursday. It was considered one of the biggest search operations in the last two-decade. The procedures involved in the operation were repeat of ‘90s when militancy was at it its peak. There was no civilian causality, though, some stone-pelting incidents were reported.
The IG CRPF said the situation in the south Kashmir is challenging as locals have also joined the militancy, but the forces are hopeful of safe Amarnath yatra.
“We are hopeful of safe Amarnath yatra. A coordinated scheme involving all the security agencies and the wherewithal will be in place for the yatra,” said the IG.
He said threats by militants against the police personnel are unfortunate. “The security forces including police and army are giving an employment and the person is able to take care of his family. So these threats unfortunate,” he said.
The IG said the security operations will continue as per the evolving situation and intelligence agencies.
