The week long ‘Jhiri Mela’ which is an annual event started today at village Jhiri in Jammu district. It is being held to commemorate the martyrdom of Baba Jittoo, a farmer who gave up his life in protest against the oppressive demands of a land lord about 500 years ago.
The mela was inaugurated by Governor Satya Pal Malik
Governor paying rich tributes to Baba Jitto observed that supreme sacrifice made by Baba Jitto is exemplary for each of us to emulate in our fight against injustice.
