N Delhi: Army chief Bipin Rawat said talks with Hurriyat can happen if they shun the violence and stop taking support from the western neighbour. He said talks can happen on our terms and conditions and they are shun the gun, give up violence
Speaking at an annual press briefing, he, however, clarified that the ‘Taliban analogy’ cannot be applied in Jammu and Kashmir where the government has rejected unconditional talks with the stakeholders, including separatists and militants, adding that talks in the Valley ‘will be on our terms’
Army Chief said J&K is a bilateral issue between two nations and there is no place for third party intervention.
Gen Rawat said Situation in J&K needs to be brought under better control. He said army is adopting hard power and soft power approach.
He said there are around 300 terrorists waiting across the LoC to infiltrate into India
He said Indian Army as a professional army do not target civilians intentionally, but we do know there are terrorists operating from that soi (western neighbou )who attempt to cross the border.
He said so, it is very difficult to identify between a civilian and a terrorist.
