Villages under Samgarh Panchayat Reasi district near historic Shiv Khori shrine is facing severe water crisis. Locals says they have been consistenly assured of water supply for many years but on ground nothing has moved.
Children here have to trek a distance to reach school. They don’t carry water bottles as water is scarce commodity. To quench thrust they don’t have another option than to drink from the same pond sitting along animals.
The children do feel its unhygienic but are helpless . Rather, they have been rendered helpless by the system which doesn’t seem to differentiate between kids and animals
Former Deputy Commissioner Reasi had assured of quick action in this regard. It has been more than a year since this assurance. Ironically its rain feed pond and there is every likelihood it would go dry soon. While animals may find another water resources , Children it seems would be forced to go to school thirsty that too if they don’t fall ill
